ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Parker. I’m an actor, poet, puppeteer, teaching artist, singer, and multidisciplinary theatre artist from the upper midwest, most often based in New York City. My pronouns are she/her/they.
I’ve appeared onstage at NYC’s La Mama theatre, and regionally with the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, the Walnut Street Theatre, Theatre at Monmouth, Playpenn, the Playwright’s Center, the Eagle Theatre, InterAct, red eye experimental, Acadia Repertory Theatre, and lots of other places! Before earning my MFA at Philadelphia’s Temple University, I lived in Minneapolis, where I did a bunch of devised theatre, new playmaking, and queer art. Before that, I studied musical theatre at the Santa Fe University of Art & Design under Jon Jory and other amazing people. My poetry has been featured in recenter press, bedfellows magazine, WXPN Radio, in various other little corners of the internet. I also work as a typewriter poet (what is that?) My work as a teaching artist enriches and informs my work as an artist-artist.
My art is embodied, smart, strange, and honest. I’m most interested in finding the nuance, the complexity, and the universal simplicity in every story, because I believe that humans come to know ourselves through narrative. Every story has the power to shape a better world. As a performer, I am shaping that world by shaping stories; I use my body, my voice, my memory, and my intellect to explore and expand narrative in the pursuit of a kinder and more just future.
I especially love making new plays and musicals, working on Shakespeare, and anything involving puppets. I grew up riding horses and would absolutely freak out for the chance to ride one in a movie. Other things I enjoy doing are riding my bike, singing, playing outside, especially hiking, camping, canoeing and kayaking, and low-stakes art projects. I’m currently teaching myself appalachian dulcimer. It’s going pretty ok!!
